Till last wednesday, I never realised how embarassing it could be to explain a Rasgulla (roshogolla - for the puritans) to a young expat.
We were out for lunch and there were the rashogollas for dessert. I proudly presented them as "the best thing to come out of my hometown" and insisted that my Canadian colleague try one.
"So, what does rasgulla mean?" he asked innocently
"Errr...ras means juice and gulla means...balls. That would make it a "Juicy Ball"!
The young Canadian was all smirk. "So, should I cut my Juicy Ball and eat it?"
I decided to go the bong way here. "No, you put the whole ball in your mouth..." and volunteered to demonstrate, closed my eyes with feeling and mumbled "...and slowly sqeeeeze the juice out of the soft ball so that it fills your mouth...mmmmm...delicious"!
The guy was rolling on the floor laughing.
